The Georgia Advocacy Office is Georgia’s federally mandated Protection and Advocacy organization for people with disabilities. GAO provides information and referral, legal advocacy, technical assistance, self-advocacy support, and disability-rights resources. Its work includes protection from abuse and neglect, access to services and supports, community integration, ADA and civil-rights enforcement, assistive technology, employment, voting access, supported decision-making, and advocacy for children and youth with disabilities.

Eligibility Requirements

Serves Georgians with disabilities who need information, referral, advocacy, or assistance related to disability rights. Direct legal representation and advocacy are not available for every issue and depend on GAO’s program priorities, eligibility requirements, and available resources.

Ages Served

Birth To 3 (Early Intervention), Preschool (3-5), Elementary (6-10), Middle School (11-13), High School (14-18), Transition Age / Young Adult (16-26), Adults (18+)

GAO serves people with disabilities across the lifespan. Eligibility for specific advocacy programs may vary based on the issue, program priorities, and available resources.
